Music has been very important to me since I started playing the clarinet in the third grade. Switched to alto sax a few years later. Played in high school, college and Navy bands. Grew up loving mainstream jazz artists such as Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, Dave Brubeck, Cannonball Adderley, John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk, etc. Also liked classical music very much. Growing up near New York City, had wonderful opportunities such as going to a rehearsal of the New York Philharmonic with my idol, Leonard Bernstein; operas at the Met; and broadway shows such as West Side Story. Had the pleasure of interviewing Count Basie for my school newspaper following a concert at Gettysburg College. www.wvbnbs.com/inns/44.html
