My life can be defined and demarcated by music.
First came something like the soundtrack to The Last Picture Show distills it
Then came Roots of Rock&Roll Elvis, Chuck Berry, Beach Boys, Johnny Mathais, Buddy Holly, Motown,
Next was British Rock & Folk Beatles, Cat Stevens, Moody Blues, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Simon&Garfunkel, Van Morrison, some Dylan and Baez, BeeGees, Strawbs, Pink Floyd, Credence Clearwater Revival, Don McLean,
But about then Classical really hit me too... Mahler, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Elgar, Stravinsky, Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner, Puccini, Verdi, Debussy, Ravel, Copeland, Sibelius, Strauss, Shostakovich, Brecht,
Next came my eclectic period soundtracks, Vangelis, Peter Gabriel, Philip Glass, new age, folk again, world music,
and now more world & techno Moby, Dema Preval, Carter Burwell, Jami Seiber, Lisa Gerrard, Hans Zimmer, Arvo Part, Gustavo Santaolalla, Anouar Brahem, and so much more
I grew up in the west, the Rocky Mountains, and lived for the first decade with the radio stations that my parents/grandparents listened to. Ever since it's been an ever widening circle. Today there is something of almost every sub genre including a bit of goth country, bluegrass, yoga dance trance, and lots in between the cracks that appeals to to me.
