Bio

Hometown:  Slidell

There is virtually no category of music that I will not listen to now and then, but my first love is the blues which I was first introduced to as a teenager living on a rural Minnesota farm in the 1950's listening to the fabulous Brother Gatemouth show on late summer nights on radio station KTHS from Little Rock, Arkansas. Thanks to Stan's Record Shop, 728 Texas Street in Shreveport, Louisiana for sponsoring Brother Gatemouth's show in those days.

As a teenager, I ventured to the Maple Lake Pavilion near Mentor, Minnesota where on summer Sunday nights I heard such acts as Roy Orbison, the Everly Brothers, Buddy Knox, Dale Hawkins, Freddy Cannon and many others. Unlike the mega-concerts of today, in those days you could hear great music in a room that was usually much smaller than a school gymnasium.

Now I especially enjoy finding musicians such as Leonor Gonzalez Mina who are not well known outside of their national venues.

Other favorites are Eliades Ochoa, and Lisandro Meza as well as ZZ Top, Marty Robbins, James Brown, Miles Davis and a lot of middle eastern/far eastern influenced "new age" music.

If "Main Street" is your destination of choice, you will not appreciate my company. For the rest of you, where shall we travel to tonight my friends? How about an Antioquenian bistro in the Andes, a Sufi gathering in Istanbul, a night alone under the stars in the middle of the Sahara desert, a dreamy journey deep into the Irish soul, a tango cafe in Buenos Aires, a funky blues venue on the chitlin circuit, a nightclub in Batista's Cuba, a Saturday night in a small midwestern town's only bar, a smoky little joint off Bourbon Street or a biker bar in El Paso?
