The first concert I'd ever attended was, "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" at the Regis Fieldhouse in Denver, CO. The tix were $2.50 and it was almost a life changing event.
My Mom used to work at KIMN Radio (when top 10 was all there was. Now, there's the top bazillion!) Barry Fey, President of Barry Fey Productions used to stop by the station all the times to promote his upcoming concerts. The DJ's at KIMN were straight-laced surfer dudes, they had very little interest in what Fey was bringing to town.
Anyway, he'd comp tix to all of his concerts and the DJ's
would pass them on to my Mom who would in turn bring them
home to her upcoming wannabe rockers. We saw every concert that came to town for almost three years.
One funny story: We got tix to see Spirit (a huge group at the time) We asked an attendent who the opening act was and he replied some group called, "Led Zepplin". We were like: Led Zepplin? What a stupid name for a group! Needless to say, they smoked Spirit! It ended up that that show was the second stop on their 1st U.S. tour...I saw them twice-Thanks Barry Fey.
We saw groups like: Blue Cheer, Country Joe and the Fish (they were very cool!) Iron Butterfly, Jimi Hendrix-3 times-Thanks Barry! So many others. It was a very amazing
experience, and people say there is no God!
