Music has gone downhill since Kurt Cobain decided to make love to his shotgun and ended up leaving a major cavity in his head. Everything since is cerebral drumbeats and inhuman string parts made cantankerous by people who forgot to look up the defenition of Harmony in the dictionary. I find refuge in latter-day tunes only when they consist of actual artists, i.e. musicians with actual melodies and not a metronome-drowsed drum beat hollowed out by machines. That being said, my favorite contemporary artists are Nine Inch Nails and Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, My Chemical Romance, Nick Cave,Interpol and the Manic Street Preachers, Holy Bible-era. Later tastes range from Pink Floyd to the Doors, Ludwig van Beethoven, Richard Wagner, Laurie Anderson and the immortal Apoptygma Berzerk, himself an entrepeneur of industrial composition, but at least he has a Soul, and is often-times poetic. If I sound a little superfluous, my apologies. I'll get some sleep eventually, I'm positive.
