I cut my blues teeth with my friend Jim Burns with intro from Long John Hunter at the Lobby in Juarez in 1960. The music scene in Austin from 61 to 67 was rather bland even though Janis Loplin was there at the time. My frat brother, disc jockey John Sucke, introduced me to Bob Dillon's music. On my return to El Paso, I fell into the late 60s rock revolution:Rolling Stones; Jimmi Hendrix (who I had as an eighth grade classmate, unknown at the time to me, at Meany Junior High School in Seattle)Jefferson Airplane; Steppenwolf; Hair (which I saw on Broadway Xmas 68); Grand Funk Railroad; and James Brown.George Peinado, John Spanagel and I pretty much stayed on top of the rock n roll scene in the early 70s.I have a passing acquaintance with classic music through my sister Clare's piano study and a girl friend, Judy Weisberg, who played violin with the El Paso Orchestra. George Peinado introduced me to the Jazz classics of Brubeck, Getz and Miles Davis. But my heart belongs to the Blues.
