I'm a newcommer to symphonic metal. I've been into alternative for a long time, but avoided goth-metal. I was watching some videos on youtube and saw two that used the music of Within Temptation. I liked the music. Went to itunes and downloaded their newest, 'The Heart of Everything'. Listening to that cd was a defining moment for me. It totally blew me away. There isn't a single song on the disk that I don't love. I went on to purchase everything they had and in October I bought their DVD 'Black Symphony'. It was a revelation to me. I couldn't have imagined how perfect the blend of heavy metal and symphny with a full choir could be. I went on to listen to Lacuna Coil, Nightwish, Evanescence and Tarja. There are others that I love, too, but these are my main passions right now. The music of WT and Evanescence literally moves my soul. It's frustrating because I really don't know anyone else who is into this genre. No one has ever heard of them except maybe Evanescence. I find that more and more, I am into the European music scene. US music is fine and all, but seriously lacks creativity and that amazing uniqueness of European. They have gone beyond making noise and have created an artform that can move the very soul.
