I started listening to early '60s Rock and Roll and R&B on the school bus when I was 12-13 years old. But the first artists that really grabbed me (by the throat) were the Rolling Stones (Satisfaction) and The Animals (House of the Rising Sun). I started gravitating towards blues based and rock and R&B. I kept looking for I-knew-not-what. By the mid to late '70s I was listening to JJ Cale, David Bromberg, Van Morrison, Little Feat, Allman Brothers, Nick Drake. Radio was dying as far as I was concerned and word of mouth was how I was hearing about 'new' stuff. Eventually I gravitated to the roots of it all, listening to the old school blues masters like Robert Johnson, Elmore James, Lightning Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, Muddy, The Wolf, and all the ones that followed.
