I always gravitate to talented singer/songwriters and bands who write and compose their own music. Give me a singer or band performing in a seedy club with only a guitar and microphone and I'll be happy every time. The auto-tune, overly synthesized trend in pop music is discouraging. Technology has made it so ANYONE can sound like a decent singer even if they never hit a right note. When did music become more about image than content and talent? I blame the neon colors from the 80s. They must have scorched our brains so that we started to gravitate towards flashiness instead of quality.
My friends say my music taste makes me sound depressed since singer/songwriters tend to be more downbeat and pensive. Trust me I just love indie music, I'm not a dramatic depressive!
