I started listening to jazz after midnight with my radio under my pillow at age 12 (Felix Grant, "Nightside"). The first LP I ever purchased was Benny Goodman's 1939 concert at Carnagie Hall (recorded before I was born.) I am a fan of big band jazz (still) and small group acoustic jazz. Favorite? Ahmad Jamal Don't like "Smooth Jazz" which used to called fusion and has been homoginized into inoffensive "urban contemporary" pap by the mass market radio stations. For a long time fan of radio jazz (now mostly extinct), Pandora is a godsend!
