No, Phil didn't really drop out of rock, he's done quite a few rock records since the 70's. I think he's just become really well known as an acousic solo artist. I saw him Live with Glass Harp in 2003 at a big concert at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington. It was fabulous.
