I like a few musical genre---Big Band, Oldies from the 50s and 60s (Doo Wop), a select group of musicians in the R&B category, Standards, a few Country artists (Loretta, Dolly, Martina and one or two others)who were country when country wasn't cool. I'm a huge Motown fan (prior to 1990) and I like a few songs by the "Divas-in-the-making." I love Arthur Prysock, Billy Eckstein, The Platters, Ella, Nancy Wilson,Joe Williams, Bill Withers, Billy Holiday, Nat King Cole....I think you get the point. I don't like anything that I can't understand the words--or, that offends me (such as graphically stating what one wants to do with the opposite sex). I appreciate classical music and like the music from a few operas. I have 8 grandchildren under the age of 13--all siblings--including twin boys born the day after President Obama was elected. And, I have spent 15 years working with preschool-aged children so Raffi, Mr. Rogers (may he rest in peace) and Sesame Street are also among sources of music stored in my memory bank(smile).
But, I have been blessed the most by traditional gospel music. From The Happy Goodman's to Mahalia Jackson and much, much more; I love to start my day with, The Presence of the Lord is Here, by Byron Cage.
