Well, it has been said I have an unusual taste in music, compared to most people my age. (DOB-12/6/59) So? I like what I like and don't give a rats a** what others think. Old jazz, blues, novelty tunes, anything 20's 30's or 40's. Maybe I like it because it reminds me of the old 78 rpm records I used to bring home from yard sales so many years ago.I'd play them at home on my cheap record player, when I was a youngster.(My friends thought I was odd.)
The recording technology in the first half of the 20th century evolved quickly,(sound quality) as one can easily figure out by comparing a recording from, say 1920 to one from 1940. In fact, every decade made incredible advances. (For quite a while, there, at least.) For some reason, or perhaps for several, I still like a lot of old stuff. The talent was authentic.
In my lifetime we've gone from records, to 8 tracks and reel to reel, to cassettes, to compact discs. (As far as home audio librarys go.) Now-a-days with mp3 players, we can carry tremendous librarys of music in our pockets and listen anytime at will. Amazing.What's next?
As a kid I played a lot of those ancient 78's until they were worn out. They fly pretty far if thrown properly,(flying Disc) and shatter into many pieces. I found some fragments in the garden when roto-tilling. Now I'm sorry I didn't save them all, even if they didn't play well. It is nice to hear some of that music here now. Pandora is fantastic!
After listening free for a few years, I've decided to go with the paid version. It is the biggest bang for your buck that I can think of.
