Normally a radio-hater since with very few exceptions, what plays is what is considered "hip" or "best-selling" and some of the musicians I like are either not in that vein or considered to be passe. So the music I cling to almost fanatically includes folkies like Phil Ochs, Richard & Mimi Farina, Gordon Bok, Fairport Convention and the Incredible String Band, just to name a few. I also like exploring unusual sounds and WILL listen to musicians from throughout the world even if I've never heard of them. To that end, part of my musical selection in Pandora (forgive me, I'm still a rookie here) is the Khmer-inflected Dengue Fever, but I also like a lot of other Asian music (traditional and pop sounds both) and also happily play in the fields of African and Latino sounds. But I often come back to straight-ahead jazz with sounds by the likes of Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Bird, Mingus, Monk, Sonny Rollins. I also like some of the jazz fusion sounds that began hitting their stride in the 1970s even if their more contemporary brethren and sistern (?---is there such a word?) seem a little meek in comparison. I love blues and rock 'n roll as well---both the oldies (Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Beatles. Stones, Kinks, the Who, Grateful Dead, et. al.) to some of the newer bands like Wilco and Sonic Youth.

Musically speaking, I'll try nearly anything once or twice---but I am pretty much turned off by rap and hip-hop. Just not my sound. But if you like it---hey! It's a big world: knock yourself out. Really.
