First album owned: the soundtrack to "Star Wars" -- hey, it was 1977. After that: the Beatles red album, then the blue, and then the sky opened: Simon and Garfunkel, the Stones, and then more modern music -- Madness, R.E.M., Men at Work, the whole infant MTV stuff.
Started playing my own music in the eighties, and writing and performing. That opened up even more music, as the appreciation for writing and arranging developed: Elvis Costello, XTC, Peter Gabriel. When our band's sound develped into a more intimate format, other tastes opened up, too -- the Americana sound, with Gillian Welch, the Jayhawks, Old Crow Medicine Show, Son Volt, and old Carter family tunes.
But these are just the peaks of the iceberg. How could I forget the streaks of old R&B and doo wop, seventies punk, seventies lush, plus classical, polyphonic, South African, and so many other genres that I couldn't even mention them all here?
Basically -- music is a large part of my interaction with the world and with other people. Drop a note if you're the same....
