I enjoy unusual sounds, but I avoid the louder, more discordant stuff. It really just depends on the piece in general. I don't care for rap or country as a rule of thumb, although some of the older stuff within each genre is good.
I like everything from ambient to tribal; again, depends on the piece. I tend to like more melancholy tunes, if you will. Dido and Sara McLaughlin come to mind. Some folk-inspired stuff is good, but there's alot of garbage out there, too. I realllllly enjoy 80s rock and pop. Yeah, I'm that old. That transitional period as we left the 80s behind and entered the 90s produced alot of great stuff, too. Ozzie wannabes go home! Just because you can screech like a tortured animal is no reason to pick up a mic.
