I love music! My B.A. degree is in music, from the University of Puerto Rico, and took several undergraduate courses at the Music Conservatory in Puerto Rico. I used to be a music teacher for 5 years in Puerto Rico (Escuela Libre de Musica = Free School of Music i.e. a tuition free government/public school that had a full music program in addition to it's regular academic program). I play piano, accordion, organ and keyboard (electronic). I myself have interest in music composition, and venture sometimes to do it in my Yamaha keyboard. I play organ during one of the masses at my Catholic Church (Holy Faith). When I did my M.A. degree at the University of Puerto Rico, I did my thesis in the psychology of music and music therapy (I also love medicine, and saw this as a nice way to match two interests). Since I came to Gainesville, I have not done anything else on this, but again, continue my music by playing at the church. I also play my accordion for some of the little children's programs held at the library where I work.
My favorite music generes are the classic (that was my musical training), new age, religious, world and ethnic. However, this is not an absolute rule. I think for me, what attracts me to a song is a beautiful melody. I even like the rock songs from the Beatles, and elvis Presley, because they have nice melody. A blues song I love is "Only You" from the Ink Spots. I love Cusco. Some of his rhythms are powerful. I like songs in tacet forms that repeat, almost hypnotically, but each repetition makes changes in instrument - usually adding instruments. I like music in keyboard and organ. Powerful melodies, in a minor key, with a powerful rhythm - ex. Havanah-Gila (Rightly spelled? Jewish song) have made me feel energized, and so emotional to be close to tears. Is like a "Sturm und drang" that I cannot specify, that while it stirs me up, at the same time it gives a certain undefinable sadness or grief. Cusco can do this too, especially on his Apurimac CD
