I was raised on 70's Rock and migrated briefly through disco and country and western (only when it was cool during the urban cowboy years - ha!)Then in the eighties settled firmly on underground new wave - which I still like a lot - Bands like Talk Talk, Berlin, Psychodelic Furs, Depeche Mode, Dead or Alive, Bronski Beat, Tears for Fears,The Cure, - man I wish I could remember some of the band names. Following that I liked the Seattle Grunge movement -bands like REM,Pearl Jam,Live,Counting Crows. Now I mostly listen to Christin Rock - primarily Third Day - who I think is awesome!! On the top twenty side, I really like Kanye West and Sean Kingston - they sort of combine - the haunting sounds of new wave, the harmony of grunge - the trance beat of new wave - with todays lyrics.
