Hello, I have been into gypsy jazz and ragtime lately. My tastes are all over the board. I enjoy unique music that you wouldn't hear everyday, the kind that would not be classified as background music. I actually can't stand what most people call background music. I cannot help but hear it. It penetrates deep into my skull and makes go a little insane. I think this is due to too much work in the customer service biz. Where they seem to think music needs to be quiet and ignorable to be enjoyed. I am not saying we should have outrageous music all the time. But I think that a couple of people should learn to suffer through a couple of songs they don't like so that it doesn't ruin it for everyone else. Elevator music anyone?

I do not like musicians who play as fast as they can all over the scales they are playing. Up and down and back again and then really up high etc. Joe Satriani this means you. Good for you; that you can do that. Jimmy Hendrix does it but I think he does it well. There are a lot of jazz musicians that do this. I guess it is a style in and of itself. There is a way to do it, and a way not to do it. Most people sound like they are masterbating all over their instruments when they do that. Really wanking away at the thing. If that's what your into well.... I think Miles Davis is good at it sometimes, though I think he is guilty of it as well. I think Joey Santiago from the pixies is excellent at it. I think Mathew Borg from the Dead Trees knows how. There is a piano solo in a Nina Simone song that is just so good. I have to look up which one it is. There are some jazz bands that are great at it. The MIttel Orchestra. And Some are awful such as Django Reinharts son.

I couldn't possibly pinpoint why I like certain music. There are too many things to consider....
