What is Joseph Surgenor all about?... first of all... I think I am one of a kind... I am a creative thinker who is very passionate about everything I do…As far back as I can remember, I have been in love with music…I started performing at a very young age… I sung all around the world in a traveling boy choir…I know “gay” right? As I grew older, I started writing R&B music… I could sing my way into any girl’s heart by the time I was in High School… I wanted to be Tevin Campbell… Therefore, I started showcasing for record labels… One of the gigs I performed at was called Budweiser’s best in the west talent showcase. This is where I met JJ Howard and Gerald Lockhart. These people were ANR’s for Funk House Records a derivative of MCA Records back in like 1993… These people had my mom and I come out to their office so they could basically tell us we need to spend a s**t load of money for a promo package that would include pictures, a bio, 24 track digital recordings and time with their producers and vocal coaches… They wanted several thousands of dollars and they were pressuring my mom to write the check right then and there… My mother needed to consult my father first before making a decision like that and my father was not sold on the idea at all… I am sure glad that he didn’t… I know now that these people were generating most of there money off of people who make impulse decisions. There is a lot of shady bullshit and bureaucracy in the music business…I ended up at the Pacific Rim Business Academy in Long Beach, Ca…I learned about international business, sales, marketing, and small business management… I then moved back to my home town of Ventura, Ca. and went to work for a direct marketing firm…I started off as a sales rep for the company and then became the Director of Sales in matter of one year… I would always supersede the expectations of my employer and it paid off… Do you know what profit sharing is???
