I love the blues -- was introduced to it as a child by my mother, who got her exposure in juke joints in Texas. I was surprised to see Salina, Kan., turn into a blues emporium, but then it sort of figures; it was an R&B center 40-some years ago. That was back when there were two colleges there: Marymount (Catholic girls' school) and Kansas Wesleyan (Methodist, co-ed). The Lamplighter bar was the place to go to hear good musicians.
