Bio

School:  Penn State

I exclusively like good music. That spans across all genres, and although I have musical preferences like everyone else, I can appreciate artists in all genres who are producing quality music. I hate pop movements of all kinds, because I think producing music exclusively for others is a shallow, useless form of artistic expression. Although they never purely exists, the right motive behind music can make it much better. Artists who try to make the best music they can, and play the music they want to play without making sacrifices consistently produce better music than intentionally commercial artists. It's true in all eras. The guys who invented bebop in basements and clubs produced a much deeper, higher quality music than the dance bands who played swing to please the masses. The same is true today. The bands who are raking it in are the ones who made the most artistic sacrifices to please the audience. Bands who keep their own musical identity without turning into over-produced, commercialized shells of their former selves produce actual art and that makes them better.

Right now I listen to almost exclusively metal, and it's the most interesting music out right now. The genre is new enough that there is still a lot more innovations yet to take place. I find new bands all the time that bring something new to the table, creating a very dynamic and diverse art form. I've gone through phases of classic rock, rap, and jazz and I'm even a jazz musician, so I have an appreciation for all of those genres as well, but I think for the most part they're kind of stagnant. There haven't been a lot of truly unique original rock bands in a long time, and I think that's where metal fills in. It's really moving and shifting, and since most metal isn't commercial, the bands play what they like and that makes for better music.
