Bio:
In addition to studying pharmaceutical chemistry, I am the bass guitarist for the self-made blues-rock group Apia (www.myspace.com/apiaband). I find myself heavily influenced by a variety of music, the majority of it falling under jazz, progressive rock, trip hop, and psychedelic genres. Bassists as varied as Chris Squire, Marcus Miller, Tal Wilkenfeld, and Justin Chancellor inspire me and I seek to glean as much as I can from them for my own use as a musician.
However, my favorite musician is not a bass guitarist. His name is Travis Meeks; he is the spearhead and mastermind of Days of the New, the band that so often gets attributed to the post-grunge movement (this is a bit of a mischaracterization). Truth be told, Meeks, who has Asperger's Syndrome and from it a deep mental fixation on music, has created some of the most meaningful compositions I have ever heard; I have been listening to him since I was 13. If you haven't, please give the album "Days of the New II" a try.
