Stuck in the seventies, I find this genre the easiest to digest. Given the complexity of classical rock, simplicity and beauty of Motown, truly original hard rock compositions, sweeping electric jazz, and R&B dispersed throughout - new forms of instrumentation combined with the popularity of Robert Moog's new synthesizer, the introduction in the west of eastern, African, and South American instruments and the inherent experimentation it encouraged - this was perhaps the most magical, creative, and revolutionary musical period since the Renaissance. It has evolved, but nothing in popular music since can compare to the incredible creativity of this era.
