Just love listening to music and sharing it with others.
My preference for ambient type music is for thickly layered tracks with a strong emphasis on headnodic or dancable beats. Also a good amount of sampling or warped sounds to add some psychedelic feel or soulful depth is good. A creation of an almost cinematic trippy landscape in the mind is what I'm going for.
For more "modern" rock a good chord structure and an upbeat vocalist generally does the trick. Warping is good here too- though mostly on the end of guitars (waa waa bar). Of course almost all classic rock is good in my books (led zeppelin).
For hip-hop there has to be more of a subtle/complex beat coupled with witty or catchy lyrics that capture a sense of knowledge or freedom.
I can't deny reggae either.
Some pop/r+b isn't all that bad for parties- see t-pain or nelly.
