introduced to JAZZ/MUSIC by my popie - whom I considered to be a try AFICIONADO - he knew every note of every cut he enjoyed - many of the greats were school mates/friends - Ella,Sarah,Duke,Cab,The Count,Nat, Jimmie Smith,Grove Holmes on and on - here we go again- if I knew then what I know now - I would have had memorabilia/pictures and stuff of those times for my future - which is here now - at the tender age of 11-12 I was able to out knowledge his buddies with cut after cut - no one but real family friends knew my age then - but remained surprised at continuity or correctness with each cut/artists/instruments - and yes in those days after school I was able to go to the bar(joint)asking popie for money for misc. kid things(candy/popcorn/pop) before leaving a patrons coming in from work would always hedge me "if you know this cut and or artist I'll give ya .50" - that lead to $1.00 and the rest remains with smiles in my mind/ears - attended NewPort Jazz Feast at 13y/o - again gents in the immediate vacinity were surprised as a female I had music awareness-then marveled at age of awareness "unbeliveable" some of the comments - while writing this I have a smile on my face and in my heart for those days - I even see my popie-who they called Killer Joe - not his name,just his COOL/his SMOOTH-EASE/QUITE DEMEANOR/DRESSED TO KILL - friends say the song was written for him - many, many years later now I enjoy that history - can anyone out there feel me??????
