this song was a staple of the community local water slides...sum m e r s in the late 80's. I remember my prepubecent, pathetic self amidst all that exposed flesh. Some how this song helped me still feel like I was a part of the scene...haha . . . t h e memories. Classic Phil Collins. So talented...t h e drummer who ended up stealing the show.

Actually this song is him dealing with his divorce. All the stuff about drownings and what not is false. As for Mr. Collins, I quite enjoy is works. Great voice.

@ jonicue807- I heard that the story behind this song is that when he was a kid he saw mis friend murdered (drowned to death) by another kid he knew. So he made this song and when he brought it to concert he invited the person who murdered his friend and after he show they arrested the guy... at least this is what my aunt said was the story behind it all.

When Phil was young his friend fell into the water in winter and Phil couldn't get him out of the water. The person in the song was standing on the bank and didn't help save Phil's friend and he drowned while the person watched.
