Composer, producer and performer Phil Coulter was the reigning king of contemporary Celtic music, becoming the best-selling Irish artist of his generation. Born in Derry, Northern Ireland in 1942, Coulter began his career while studying music at Belfast's Queens University, writing the Capitol Showband's 1963 hit "Foolin' Time" and later penning the ensemble's 1965 Eurovision Song Contest entry "Walking the Streets in the Rain." Other notable compositions of the era include Twinkle's 1964 smash "Terry" and Them's oft-covered garage-rock classic "I Can Only Give You Everything." Still, Coulter enjoyed his greatest success as a writer after teaming up with collaborator Bill Martin; together they authored some of the biggest pop hits of the period, including Sandie Shaw's Eurovision-winning "Puppet on a String" and Cliff Richard's "Congratulations." Despite his pop success, he remained drawn to the Irish folk of his youth, working with acts including the Dubliners, Planxty and the Furey Brothers while concurrently writing a series of hits for the Bay City Rollers. After his partnership with Martin ended during the late '70s, Coulter turned increasingly to performing, and in 1983 issued his solo debut Classic Tranquility; its meditative, lushly-orchestrated renditions of traditional Celtic favorites immediately scored with Irish audiences, and on the strength of subsequent efforts including 1984's Sea of Tranquility and 1985's Phil Coulter's Ireland, he emerged as the country's best-selling artist. Later material including 1990's Words and Music, 1993's Recollections and 2000's Highland Cathedral introduced Coulter to a growing international audience as well. The intimate Songs I Love So Well was issued on Shanachie in early 2001. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

It's my dream to, someday, be taught music by someone as talented and absolutely outstanding as Mr. Coulter. His music is extremely inspiring! I just wish some day I could actually meet him.
I first heard Phl Coulter on a Tape in a Nashville Gift Store in the 1980's. We have purchased most Coulter music since then and play his music in my own gift shop now in Ripon Wisconsin. Karen
I first heard Phil Coulter on a CD playing in a B & B in Blarney while on my honeymoon in 1990. I have purchased every Coulter CD in existence..still play his music constantly.
Phil is a brilliant composer, singer. Love listening to him.

I have adored Phil Coulter ever since I heard the CD Recollections playing in a yarn shop! We have all his albums, including one that we picked up in an Irish shop and played on our car cd as we drove 2700 miles around Ireland in 2002. I can't get enough of him.

Thank you! For being, for playing, for putting it out to us.....
one of the best artists and composers EVER and they only have 3 of his albums on here and a pretty limited biography!! oh well, still gotta love this music! Phil is the best!

I first heard of him when I would listen to James Galway. Then, from there my horizons in music very much expanded. So glad to hear the variety. :) I have a daughter with Down's Syndrome and she loves it just as much.
Where has Phil Coulter been all of our lives? Celtic Thunder The Show was our first introduction to Mr. Coulter and we have been FANS ever since. Thank you, Thank you for writing and performing REAL music.

We were vacationing in Pigeon Forge, TN, several years ago and heard Phil Coulter's music playing in the store and fell in love with his style. So relaxing.
Beautiful music. good to play while reading. Something else I found through Pandora. Pardora has been a music "eye opener" for me.

Phil Coulter's music so beautiful. I learned about because of Celtic Thunder. He's composed many songs for them as well as adapting many old favorites. His bio is not showing his most recent works.

Just about the prettiest song...I dream of being Maureen O'Hara in the arms of one John Wayne.

Just curious ... why is this review written in the past tense? Makes it sound like he's dead. My admittedly quick web search indicates not.
Awesome Music!
