Plastic Penny

Plastic Penny were an unremarkable late-'60s British group who made the U.K. Top Ten in early 1968 with "Everything I Am," a labored ballad augmented by strings, that wasn't even one of their best songs. Much of their material was psychedelic pop with hints of encroaching prog-rock, sometimes recalling the Who a bit, elsewhere going into more fey story-songs. Their guitarist, Mick Grabham, would play with Procol Harum for a few years in the 1970s. ~ Richie Unterberger, Rovi

They sound like The Who.
Thought they sounded a bit Flaming Embers
Most likely the only good tune this band had. Nevertheless , exceptional musicians to go on to bigger and better things, i.e., Procol Harum
What a NASTY wah-wah! Was this a "poor man's" Spencer Davis Group or Small Faces?
Their drummer is Nigel Olsson, Elton John's long-time drummer.

Their verson of strawberry fields - a cover?
Their version of Strawberry Fields is a travesty.
The review is all well and good, but today, they have a great, nostalgic sound (although nothing I can detect like the Who, a band I've seen live a few times and still think one of the most phenomenal yet underrated bands of all time). As a child of the 60s, I can see how then they would have sucked but their appeal has certainly grown with time -- the sucky quality is now merely quaint.

They DO sound like early Who.
they aren't great and are generic... for a psychedelic pop band, what the public liked was the generic part, they lapped it up... i like their cover of strawberry fields forever, personally

This is as generic as they came in '68, and don't let's kid ourselves, folks.

The only reason this gets even a second listening is due to the miserable state of what passes for 21st century rock and roll. Even then, it's still mighty underwhelmin g . Pass on this, and go check out High Tide.
this defines rock n roll - it toke talent and the attitude of lets experiment with the sounds to produce a unique set of tunes. I love this style of music -no one does this today - as a drummer the band Iam in does play around with this style ie. focus...

Unremarkable . . . p f f t . I think they're great. It's a shame that the rest of the world didn't get it.
