There is virtually no category of music that I will not listen to now and then, but my first love is the blues which I was first introduced to as a teenager living on a rural Minnesota farm in the 1950's listening to the fabulous Brother Gatemouth show on late summer nights on radio station KTHS from Little Rock, Arkansas. Thanks to Stan's Record Shop, 728 Texas Street in Shreveport, Louisiana for sponsoring Brother Gatemouth's show in those days.
As a teenager, I ventured to the Maple Lake Pavilion near Mentor, Minnesota where on summer Sunday nights I heard such acts as Roy Orbison, the Everly Brothers, Buddy Knox, Ronnie Hawkins & the Hawks, Freddy Cannon and many others. Unlike the mega-concerts of today, in those days you could hear great music in a room that was usually much smaller than a school gymnasium.
Now I especially enjoy finding musicians who are not well known outside of their national venues.
