I'm a visual artist. I make large wall sized photographs which I have selectively processed. I usually write my way to an image so I'm a writer too. I'm a fourth generation artist so my degree is actually in creative writing. I grew up being artistically trained by my Dad and his friends. My friends growing up were all musically astute (we were listening to the blues at 12) and very critical in our listening. We critiqued album concepts, song order and musicianship. Bob Dylan topped our list of favorites followed by the Stones, Bo Diddley, and Paul Butterfield. My tastes now run toward Tom Waits and most of the singer-songwriter types who show some originality in their lyrics (Nanci Griffith, Shawn Colvin, David Grey). In order to use my Dad's marvelous stereo system I had to listen to a side of modern jazz or classical for every side of rock I listened to. I came to love many of those musicians as well. Music is as essential to me as food.
