Though I respect classic rock, I am a big believer in alt and non-classic rock and, as a teenager in the eighties, followed the new romantic/new wave movement when I was in high school. I made out with my boyfriend to Echo and the Bunnymen's Ocean Rain Moon album and saw Sixteen Candles and Risky Business when they came out in the theatres. Good times. I am slowly starting to accept the slightly stinging fact that the music of my youth is now considered "retro."
I believe the new wave music I so enjoyed during that time in my life laid a stable foundation that helped future generations of progressive and alternative artists to come forward into the light. In other words, you can thank Missing Persons, English Beat and the Vapors for Santogold, Vampire Weekend and the Hives. Or curse them.
I may not be as early an adopter now that I am older, but I still bask in the thrill of discovering a new band. And there are plenty to find here on Pandora. I love it here.
