I've been a Jazz fan since 1982 when a fellow Air Force goon played Jeff Beck Blow by Blow...arguably a Jazz recording. The next taste I got of Jazz was Lee Ritenour. Been hooked ever since. Dave is too cool. He would probably go with being labled a Jeff Beck like Jazz player, not a smooth Jazz player. I used to publish Stash Magazine, the artistic voice of St. Pete...the 9/11 attacks ended that, I was recalled to active duty and like many others, my life was irrevocably changed. I'm convinced that art and music are the true signs on the path to a changed and peaceful world. Their insight, observation, and influence has the power to enlighten and improve the world. Stanley rocks Jazz which is why I was inspired to participate in your venue here...beer helps as well..peace.
Its been a few months since I shared some feelings on this site. One of the things I want to point to is the seldom celebrated wonder of technology. Not because it can accomplish scientific marvels, but because it can bridge the virtual chasm that sometimes exists between artists and audiences. A much wider exposure to otherwise obscure talents is afforded by endeavors like Pandora. Although far from perfect, the barometer is how upset I would be if unable to access this technological enterprise. Many thanks. Ironic, when you think about how much 30 year old music enjoys new found appreciation due to new access. Rock and roll on...
Recently, the Jazz radio station went off the air here in the bay area. Although it was like losing a friend, they had already monkeyed with the format so much (OH! they is CBS Radio) that it was barely recognizable as jazz station. In the previous years they had syndicated the programming and fired the local area icons of jazz who were the DJs and played a major role in the jazz music scene in St. Pete. Clearwater, and the Tampa Bay area. More good decisions brought to you by corporate profit seeking taking precedence over sound (no pun intended)
