My father made a profound musical influence on me when I was just an infant. In order to make me sleep at night, he would play loud music during the day. (OK, I'm still a night owl!) I started buying albums as early as I had an allowance--almost 45 years ago. Before I could even drive, I would ride the bus to the downtown San Diego library to check out albums. I amassed a collection of hundreds of LPs at used record stores and thrift stores. In college, I was a DJ at the campus radio station (KUCI) playing punk rock and "underground" Christian rock. I got into a lot of latin and Brazilian music in college through public radio. I discovered downbeat/trip-hop music and all shades of lounge music listening to Secret Agent on somafm.com, thanks to a listing on Apple's iTunes 1.0 in the "radio stations" section. I think I enjoy the discovery of new music (to me) and new artists as much or more than listening to old favorites. To anyone reading this, I hope you like the way my radio stations have turned out.
