Notes on the Way I manage my Pandora Stations...
I certainly prefer a few well managed stations, rather than a new station for every artist I can think of. The AI of Pandora works better when you give it a few parameters to work with, basically the initial bands/artists on the station, followed very closely by songs that are "disliked."
I use the following rules...
1. At least 2 bands but not more than 6 for any station. Bands should be diverse enough within sub-genre that the program reaches for more obscurity, so you can hear stuff that you may have missed.
2. what you dislike is WAAAAAAAAAY more important to the AI than what you like. The AI will use "likes" to pull in everything even loosely related to the music that is "liked" (for example: Johnny Cash for liking The Clash, or Loreena Mckennitt for Dead Can Dance.)
You should be surprised by the amount of "disliked" songs on any given station, but it is the way the AI determines what it can play on a given station.
