I first became 'experienced' to the Jazz-fusion created by Miles Davis and continued by his mentees; Chick, Stanley, Herbie, Mclaughlin, Tony, Zawinul, Airto, and Shorter, in the late sixties. I hadn't yet finished high school, but the 'pride revolution' had already bitten me-hard. That era of social, political, and ethical/moral awareness and focus draws me back, anytime that I hear this music.
My interest evolved to include the fusion of Santana, Clapton, Zappa, George Duke, Patrice Rushen, Bela Fleck, Brian Blade, Alice Coltrane, Josh Redman, and even Yanni.
Yet I'm 'old head' hip-hop too. I crank up home grown mobs including Wu Tang, Naz, TI, Ice Cube, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Ceelo, Common, Outkast, Freeway, and Jada-Kiss, as well as various Reggae-Dancehall Rappers.
When the mood strikes, I take it slow while groovin' on R&B and 'miscellaneous' Jazz. I slip the head phones on and 'let go' to Jill Scott and Gil Scott, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, John Legend, Macy Gray, Seal, and Angelique Kidjo. What can I say-I love music!
