I turned on to jazz the year the Blake Edwards TV series PETER GUNN premiered...and it was BECAUSE of the music from that series I turned on to jazz. For the "record" I was 12..
Jazz radio stations were tough to find in the Cincinnati, Ohio area in that era. I listened to a little, low power dawn to dusk station broadcasting from a barge on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River..WNOP. Great station. Wonder what ever happened to it. Used to play comedy every once in a while, including the great Lenny Bruce bit "The Falcon Club" ("how's yer bird?')
Needless to say, I was sort of loner in high school... Didn't much like rock and roll...which hit hard around my teendom years. Could have cared less.
Other stuff in my life...Dachshunds and fountain pens; tasty affordable wines and supporting the drive for single-payer universal health-care and flat rate income tax in the US
