I guess like most people, my musical tastes have been influenced by the music I've heard over the course of my life. Growing up, my parents listened to a country radio station, so "old-school" country is on my list. I particularly like the old western ballads.
Another strong influence on my musical tastes was the Star Wars soundtrack. My dad installed two big speakers in our living room ceiling. In junior high, I'd have the house to myself for a couple hours after school and I'd put Star Wars on the record-player and sit right between the 2 speakers and essentially meditate. Since then, many movie soundtracks have made their way to my list of favorites.
Another early influence was a tape of The Nutcracker and Swan Lake. My taste in classical music is a bit spotty, but there are bits and pieces from many different eras that I like.
Another old tape my brother had was Ray Lynch's Deep Breakfast. Celestial Soda Pop has been one of my favorites for a long, long time. A number of "New Age" artists make my list.
Last on my musical influences is my (sort of) Irish heritage. In junior high I was on a school trip to Boston and one of the kids purchased a tin whistle at a gift shop. Unbeknownst to me, our tech teacher was an Irish musician. He took the whistle and played something Irish and I was blown away. In college I started listening to Irish music and I fell in love with it.
So...classical/Irish/New Age/Soundtrack/Country is my musical taste. And some other stuff too...and combinations thereof... *shrug*
