I have loved music since listening to fifties radio with my mother. I knew the words to all those songs. In the sixties I followed the charts religiously and listened to Brit 'pirate' radio stations. In my teens music diversified with pop on the one hand and British blues, Underground, progressive and harder rock bands. And of course that huge genre British folk-rock. More recently, living in the US, I am coming to appreciate country-folk-rock. My roots will always be regular, softish rock. PS I don't like opera or trad jazz; and classical [except the 'greatest hits' excerpts [I know, terrible of me]. I'm an old f*rt but I do like some newer bands like Nickelbaek, Coldplay and Keane. And I'm LOVING alternative bands like Dave Matthews, so talented. The weirdest band that I recently discovered thru Pandora is Blackmore's Night, dubbed 'dragon rock' by iTunes. Not surprised to learn the Ritchie Blackmore was Deep Purple (a fave) then Rainbow (stepping stone to Blackmore's night). Next discovery via Pandora was Canadian singer/songwriter Mark Davis, who also fronts country band Old Reliable (not on Pandora - yet) and then at the opposite end of the spectrum the Scandinavian female-fronted gothic metal bands which are really quite operatic/symphonic!
I teach Spinning and am always seeking eclectic sounds for motivating playlists. At the other end of the proverbial spectrum I also teach yoga so new age is up on my list too!![artist]Mark Davis[/artist]
