don't worry about it, friend. i'ze gotz my bonafides.
i grew up in beer joints, pool halls & dance halls in small town texas. old school country & western. but my older sister was tuning in black r&b radio when black & white radio were separate entities. so i gravitated to b.b.king, bobby "blue" bland, ray charles, little richard, sam & dave, fats domino,wilson pickett, archie bell & the drells, laverne baker, aretha, dinah washington, martha & the vandellas.
i played in my high school marching band, dixie land band & stage band. the trombone. i wanted to play saxaphone, but the trombone was cheaper & that made my dad's decision easy ... and final.
then came elvis. my first 45 record ever in 1956 was "hound dog." buddy holly. the big bopper. gene vincent. the "dirty bop." what fury that rock 'n roll music unleashed.
i saw roy orbison at riverside hall in east bernard,tx (population: 1000). stood five feet from the man.
saw james brown in his prime. michael jackson in his. jackson browne. mimi farina. taj mahal. springsteen. merle haggard (the best single show ever), marty robbins; b.j. thomas; roy head; neil young, eric clapton,joan baez,tracy nelson, rolling stones, lynerd skynerd;
i didn't know townes van zandt, but i met him & heard him sing & play. i've known street musicians, avant garde composers, punx & opera singers. also some awesome drag queens.i have one of charlie watts' drumsticks (cow palace). i saw zz top's first gig ever at the catacombs, houston. i saw janis so drunk she could barely talk, but she still could sing. i saw jim morrison ALMOST take out his c**k. i saw the red hot chili peppers take out their c**ks (then cover them with socks). i once met some of the circle jerks. i was headed to woodstock in my '60 chevy, but turned back when i hit the traffic jams. well, what can i say? sometimes you guess wrong.
