Wow... my music tastes bridge a huge expanse of the musical spectrum. Opera is about the only genre that is unfamiliar to me; other than that I'm all ears.
Grew up on classic rock and love Seger, Boston, Big Star, Thin Lizzy, old Frampton, Skynard, Allmans, Jackson Brown, even Marshall Tucker...grew to love country without losing my love for rock, and can listen to George Strait, Alan Jackson, Rodney Crowell, Brad Paisley, Martina McBride, Patty Loveless (not to exclude Patsy Cline and the myriad other greats)...you name it....I do not care much for the new generation of country singers at the moment. Seems like they are all mimics of Garth Brooks, Brooks and Dunn etc...less talent there than meets the eye, in my opinion. Being from Memphis, Otis Redding, Al Green and any of the Stax artists have a luxury box in my heart. Otis can make me weep. And yes, I love Elvis. If you claim to be a sponge for music but deny the pure beauty of Elvis' voice and position in the history of music, you still an undergrad in my opinion. Learning to distinguish good rap from bad...its definitely a process.
Any legitimate blues (Memphis/Delta, Chicago...etc)like Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Albert King and that other King...wait a minute...oh yeah...B.B., is a Siren song. I'll lash myself to the mast for Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robert Cray and Derek Truks...
I'm not so arrogant as to say I'm a purist, a connoisseur, or aficionado, but I'm damn good at distinguishing between music and noise...
So what's on my Ipod? Alot, but I wear out Big Star, Tom Petty, old Elton John, Elvis Costello, Keith Urban, Strait, Jackson, Stevie Ray, Buddy Guy...we're outta time here...
Always looking for a new drug though...I'll try anything once.
