The MAJORITY (key word, right there. Majority, not all) bands just sing about getting drunk and sex and drugs. I don't think that's the right message to send to people.

Sure, people still do write great lyrics, and they don't have to be completely perfect, they should just be creative.

I send texts with punctuatio n and capitaliza t i o n most of the time. I understand this makes me some sort of dinosaur! When I discovered bands like Simon and Garfunkel (from my parents' generation ) , I fell in love with lyrics-as- p o e t r y . I've never really had much of an ear for pop or hip-hop, especially not the lyrics, but I think there ARE bands even today who bother to write great lyrics. (I shouldn't really complain, though, since I love Bon Jovi and their lyrics are... not poetry!)

Absolutely . I think if people could get people to enjoy the educationa l process more, they would have a better respect for grammer. Most of today's pop and hip-hop dosen't help. It's hard to write music sometimes, but a majority of today's music just sounds like a bunch of words thrown on paper. Texting dosen't help either; that just teaches people to write half-writt e n sentences with misspellin g s and without puncuation . I have nothing against texting, though. just the way people use it.

I try to be nice when I correct people, especially in person. I think that our education system has huge problems, including how grammar is taught. It doesn't have to be miserable or boring! It can be very practical and useful. I prefer educating people to just plain correcting them, if that makes sense. (And I can't help it; I work as a writer/edi t o r / p r o o f r e a d e r , so the urge to grab my red pen is strong.)
I don't mind grumbling on the internet about a pop-radio song, though! :)

I suppose you're right, it could go either way, And I completely agree with you; people do need to learn better grammer, I just think we have to find a better way to do it. I'm not judging you in any way; sometimes I catch myself correcting peoples grammer too. Maybe that is the only way to do it... :)

I think the question is whether it means (There's a reason, and you and I are the reason) or (There's a reason for you and a reason for me.) I assumed the song meant the latter, in which case it should be the object form. If the song means the former, then I suppose the subject form is correct, though it sounds awkward! And I think grammar is an important part of communicat i o n , and subject/ob j e c t pronouns are commonly misunderst o o d , so I believe in raising awareness. I don't correct ain't :)

WAIT!! I take back what I said about You and I is both the subject and the object. What I meant was, we don't know if it's the subject or the object. You and I is a fragment. Although Pandora dosen't show periods or colons, just imagine one is there. If you didn't imagine there being any periods, and you weren't listening to the song, it looks like the singer dosen't ever stop to take a breath. You have to imagine periods in there or it looks like txt tlk agan where no one uses puncuation .

you are correct... Sort of. The song goes like this. There's a reason for the world... You and I. Now, right after world, you can either put in a long pause (...) or a colon (:). Either way, it's like starting a new sentence.
The pause (...) indicates the end of a sentence and a short wait before a new one. The colon (:) indicates that the end of one sentence and begin another. EXAMPLE: There was only one way to prevent the oil leak: A massive patch had to be placed over it. Now, some times the

Actually, your grammar is still incorrect. What makes that song incorrect is that the pronouns are the OBJECT of a PREPOSITIO N - there's a reason FOR X. (For is a part of speech called a prepositio n like in and on.) You wouldn't say there's a reason for I. I is the subject form of the pronoun, which is why you use it at the beginning of a sentence. Me is the object form of the pronoun. Look up subject vs. object if you want to learn more about this. :)

Hey, look everyone, it's the grammer police! I saw your comment on Five for Fighting's The Riddle. Actually, it is correct grammer, Example: You and I should meet at the grocery store (okay, that probably won't change your opinion). Seriously, maybe ppl talking in txt might mk u mad, but when you go after people about grammer... THAT GET'S ANNOYING
(especiall y when they do have correct grammer). And besides, he's writing a song. It's not easy.
