I need music like I need air. Life is nothing without it. Thanks to the iPod I reconnected with my rich musical heritage. My mother owned Autobahn by Kraftwerk. She played it in our stationwagon on eight track tape as we drove the 5 freeway from Los Angeles to the Hoopa Indian Reservation.
I grew up with Los Angeles radio and DJs. I listened to alternative radio late into the night, obsessively creating mix tapes that I would then listen to day and night for years on end.
When I hear a song, I relive a portion of my life. That's why I think it's important to choose those songs wisely. I think it's important to embrace the wide range of media we have available to ourselves and create a mental landscape that works for who we want to be.
In someways, I think the soundtrack will guide the life just like it does in movies. I don't want a drama. I don't want violence. I don't want to be so obsessed on small, meaningless details of T.V. that I miss my freeking life. Is that so crazy? To quote Trent Reznor, "I wanna live, I wanna love cuz it's a long hard road out of hell" That's it, that's all.
I post inspiring songs - old and new - on my blog every week. By inspiring, I don't mean religious, I mean music that inspires me. Mainly I'm inspired to be creative and shake my booty.
