I think hip hop/rap music is the closest reflection of my own life. So I listen to that the most. There's not much you can here in a hip hop/rap song about growing up and living that I haven't experienced, or seen first hand.
I was born 6 days before '82. So late eightees was cool, but early ninetees really influenced my listening. The Death Row Era definitely made an impact. Old Bad Boy records. Rap-A-Lot. Rocafella. NO LIMIT.
Grew up on :
Dre, Pac, Eazy, Snoop, Warren g, Nate, Scarface, Biggie, Jay-Z, DMX, Xzibit, No Limit, E-40, Mac Dre....
Now a days my four favorites are 50 cent & Jay-z & T.I.(for the hustle and ambition) and my boy EMENEM (the hardest mc to do it).
I like R&B : Anthony Hamilton, John Legend, Lyfe, The Dream, and old Jodeci.
I was exposed to classic rock by my little sister's dad when I was young. I still hear songs I know and like now.
I hear rock & Alternative songs I like now. One of my favorite rock albums is by Audio Slave.
I'm open minded to a lot of stuff.
Try me. But, dont take away my hip hop tho.
