Gene Autry was always my favorite western singer. He was the first in my mind and the best. I consider western music the "classical" music of the people. It comes from the soul of America. Gene and the artists who followed his example - such as Eddie Arnold, Tex Ritter, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, etc. keep the up the pace with this down-to-earth American music that is sung and loved all over the world. There are so many of Gene's songs that I recall, but I guess "Riding Down the Csnyon" which he wrote with Smiley Burnett and "South of the Border" rank up at the highest rung.
It is good to know that this radio station isn't forgetting the roots of our American west's heritage. Groups like "Riders in the Sky" are also picking up the mantle and are doing a wonderful job.
NEW CHANGE Please don't play any songs by Roy Rogers. I don't think he can sing and his renditions are boring. Stick with Gene Autry for mne and the others on my list.
