I've lived in San Diego since '02, but am originally from the midwest. I was fortunate enough to have lived & worked in different cities years ago, both abroad and in the U.S., before moving here from New Mexico. Those experiences, along with my bicultural/bilingual upbringing, have always made travel, languages, and world cultures a focal point in my general life interests. I feel that I always carry within me a small piece of every region of my travels, and both food and music continue to play significant roles in my memories of all of the special moments that have formed them.
My musical tastes are fairly eclectic. I don't focus much on specific genres because, depending on the mood/feeling, I can enjoy various types of music when something/anything in a song or a band captures me.
If I had to narrow my favorite sound to a 'genre,' I guess it would be 'world music.' While I'm especially drawn to indigenous rhythms, I also enjoy traditional and contemporary sounds from various countries. Among my favorite musical countries are Brazil, Mali, India, various middle-eastern countries, Greece, and probably more, but there's a very special place in my heart for the music of Spain and Latin America.
