The Rat Pack

The so-called Rat Pack wasn't a group in the normal sense, but consisted of a loose confederation of actors, comedians, and singers lumped together by the media under that name in the early '60s. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop, and Peter Lawford formed the core of the Rat Pack, and they appeared together in several movies, including Robin and the Seven Hoods and the original Ocean's Eleven.

Sinatra, Davis, and Martin, the singing contingent of the group, all managed long individual careers in the recording industry, and would occasionally band together to do nightclub concerts, frequently in Las Vegas, that were equal parts comedy and music, and heavy on caricature, playing off of the trio's huge public personas. Several of these shows have been released on CD, VHS, and DVD under various titles, and while they conjure a kind of emblematic nostalgia for a particular time and place in the mythic 1960s (a time when a martini and a tux were seemingly all you really needed), Davis, Sinatra, and Martin are musically much better served by the material on their individual albums. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi

Me and my wife enjoy this music very much its too bad that there isn't more of it. Some of the music on the radio is not worth listening to.

How I wish we had ballrooms and clubs to hear such music and enjoy dancing. The music is classy! I'm so glad I was able to see Frank Sinatra perform in his later years. He was still great at his mature age. Those were the days. Thank you Pandora for keeping the music alive.

When I was growing up, radio stations played a variety, including Sinatra, Armstrong, Williams, Mathis, among others, so I got a great mix of styles, as well as The Beatles, Supremes, Four Seasons, etc.. To my ears, Sinatra sounded better when he was younger. Remember, there's good music and bad music in every era, each different, each having it's memorable sound. I'm glad to love the music of past decades, glad to see others much younger enjoying what I grew up with, too.

I was born in 52 and exposed to this music through my parents. I thoroughly embraced it and would play this music on the record player (along with Dylan, Beatles, etc.), my brothers and friends thought I was square. NOW they like it and tell me I was ahead of my time.

Life was simple. I wish I was my age during these years. With the liberty of today!!!

The only real artists that I've heard in a long time, mad I'm 15, so what does that say abou pt my generation?

Legends..... Nothing but classics from the BEST!

A 18 year old student of mine turned this genre on in class as background music. It blew me away. I grew up with the 40s and 50s music that my parents listened to. Sinatra is my favorite. A lot of those who have commented here are correct in saying today's music will pass into oblivion in the future. Beeber, Lil Wayne, all the rap artist won't be played as background music in elevators nor thought of as great singers. I was lucky to live in the era. It was a time of real music.

I agree, completely, Colleen! These are the true musicians.

I was born in the wrong era. Lyrics are not as beautiful as they were when these musicians were alive and performing. Can you imagine pitting Frank Sinatra against Beeber or anyone else today?

Wyldvr4ever -Keep your ears open with your attitude and you find many musical discoveries yet to be discovered. Music crosses all barriers, and there is always something just waiting for you to discover. The Rat Pack had a special magic when they were together. I was first chair flute in symphony for years, and played classical music, but didn't really appreciate it until I grew up. I respected the artists, admired their genius and technicality , but the sound didn't click for me until much later

I'm 13, but I don't see the point of people saying, "oh, look, I'm (insert age here) and I listen to this, even though most people (insert previously mentioned age here) don't!" It doesn't matter what age you are, enjoyment of music should be based on what your personal tastes are, so don't make it sound like you're better than your peers because you listen to a different kind of music then they do. Heck, I hate JB, but that doesn't mean that I consider him to be a worse singer than Sinatra. Mus
