Red Sparowes

Red Sparowes play a form of intensified, experimental post-rock with a notable use of pedal steel guitar. The Los Angeles act formed in 2003 and features current and former members of other bands: guitarist Bryant Clifford Meyer (Isis), guitarist Josh Graham (visuals for Neurosis), bassist Greg Burns (Halifax Pier), bassist/guitarist Andy Arahood (Angel Hair), and drummer David Clifford (Pleasure Forever). After recording demos for their debut album, they toured with the Dillinger Escape Plan and Made Out of Babies. Following the departure of original bassist/guitarist Jeff Caxide (Isis) and drummer Dana Berkowitz in late 2004, At the Soundless Dawn was issued in February 2005 through Neurot, home to Neurosis. Red Sparowes toured Europe in spring 2005 and the U.S. later that year with Pelican, Big Business, and Breather Resist. The next album, Every Red Heart Shines Toward the Red Sun, was released in September 2006. ~ Kenyon Hopkin, Rovi

The early part of The Swarm sounds very reminiscent Pink Floyd's Echoes. Great music.

Seriously. Crazy intense music.
Nice, new for me, FIND

Red Sparowes is one of my favorite post-rock/me t a l bands. They might not be around anymore, but 3 of their members went on to make Marriages, and although they have a different sound, the influence is clear. Check them out.
Alas, they are no more, real good while it lasted, but y'all can uncross your fingers, red sparrows r.i.p.
I've seen them twice and they are amazing.. or were.. idk if they are still making music.
very amazing
I ran across this and I'm glad I did. I love it! You rock Pandora
F**king awesome, thanks Pandora!
post rock is amazing.
patience
Popped up on my Explosions in the Sky radio station. Good to see that ISIS has spawned something so nice.

LOVE THE SOUND THAT THESE GUYS CREATE IT IS FULL OF EMOTION AND SPIRIT!
I own every single thing they've ever put out on vinyl, including this album. Along with 3 shirts, 2 hoodies, and whatever else I could get my hands on when I saw them, strictly to support them. The only reason I download leaked albums is to hear it before I can purchase it. Wrong or not, I only download bands I like with the intention of buying what I can from them when I can.
How about purchasing from the artist instead of taking a gander at a leaked album?
tsbryan0
New album leaked. I still haven't decided what I think about it..It's good, but their other 2 full lengths are AMAZING, so I dunno what I think in comparison to those.
imagin73
these guys kick a**
Give me a new album, red sparowes. And make sure it doesn't suck.
really good soothing music best music to relax to !! rock dudes!
parabola605
I wish these guys would come to Philly soon
I still can't grip my affection for this sound... it's remarkably completing

wow
@ John Mills: Thank you for that interpretati o n . I concur with almost all. I differ about rap. I personally don't like it, it may not use as much musical theory perhaps. But in my choir, we sang a song (I forget the name) that was intended to imitate the sounds of the ocean. My instructor told the audience before that performance to "remember, music is just organized sound".
lafalot303
yeah john f**k rap dechristiani z e d by vital remains is better than who diddy and little pain in my ears
This is the first time I've heard this band- thanks to pandora, and Neurosis. It' s still rock to me, "f" the classificati o n s . These guys rock...
robb419
another great band ...IMO...
Best music i've heard in a while.
oh, sorry about that Christopher. It's hard to tell sarcasm through plain text. Thank you for not making a big deal about it. The main thing is this is some great music; i think we can both agree on that!
Hey John, your point is well taken but to be clear I was being sarcastic :)
I will leave you all with this, my hierarchy of music:
1. classical
2. conteporary( i n f l u e n c e d by classical)
3. metal/rock (somewhat influenced by classical)
4. blues/jazz
5. country
6. rap/hip hop
Note:nothing can outdo classical music, it has been around way longer than anything today (obviously). It will always be at the top, but that doesnt mean everything below it itn't good. My favorite genre is metal, but i accknowledge the classical greatness. Remember, this is just my opinion.
I say that these are the main genres in todays
society:
metal, rock, rap/hip hop, contemporary , country, blues, and jazz.
You can subdivide them some more, but i dont see any point in it; metal is metal, rock is rock, and rap is (c)rap. Sorry for all those out there how like rap, but i just dont see why it is so great; i dont see it as musical genre, but i see it as a form of expression. We all have the freedom of expression. But rap uses viturally no music theory, if any.
"No musical genre is worth a sh*t unless it has "core" on the end of it."
I disagree with this statement. First off, let me say that i think these guys are great. Any band who can pull off an instrumenal has my respect. But i believe all the "-core" genres are just a way for people to riducule one band or group of bands without ridiculing the ones they like. None of these genres are necesarily bad.
No musical genre is worth a sh*t unless it has "core" on the end of it. So these guys would be "Experimenta l Alterna-Core " . You can put "post" or "nu" in there if you really have to be a tool about it.

These guys are one of the best "Experimenta l Alterna-Core " bands out there.
Yeah, f**k all the post rock bullshit.
Monikers for music genres is just marketing hype in disguise.
New is not necessarily cool. New is old. Any art history
buff can tell you that. Music = Art b/w history.
Post rock my f**king a**.
post rock? has rocked passed us by? it's still rock no matter how you slice it.
glopdemon
Saw these guys open for Nick Cave and was blown away. I love to have these guys on the background when I'm doing anything creative or artistic. Inspiring and energizing without being distracting.
Good mood/backgro u n d music

I like it.
I love it, so epic and packed with emotion it is at times overwhelming . Has joined the ranks of Tool and Mogwai as one of my favorites of all time.
They all have their perks and their follies, and opinion means everything. Here's how i think of it.Explosion s beats both bands live hands down. They grab your soul and make you sway back and forth with the consistency of a ivy league row boater.Red Sparowes sucks you into another world. A very specific reality in old china. They are the most epic of the three.Isis, well, they are more than post rock. Lyrics combined with post rock has made for a diverse and evolutionary set of albums
Better than Isis, for sure. Post-Rock finally means something other than some idiot roaring into a microphone over music that would be much better without him.
not to bad. still isis and explosions in the sky hold the belt for me:P
reminds me of Explosions in the Sky, only colder and darker. nice.
very nice.
almost as good as isis
great band, one of the few 'post rock' bands I really enjoy
rob1101
dude this band just has that same feel as pelican, which is epic
