Leroy Anderson

June 29, 1908 - May 18, 1975
born in Cambridge, MA, composed during the Modern period
Known for The Syncopated Clock, Sleigh Ride, Fiddle Faddle, and other concert favorites, American composer Leroy Anderson (1908-1975) specialized in appealing orchestral miniatures. A one-time leader of the Harvard University Band, Anderson made his reputation composing short pieces for Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops, and in the 1950s, led his own orchestra. Anderson's only large-scale works were his Piano Concerto (1953) and the musical Goldilocks (1958). A perfectionist, much of Anderson's work was not published until long after his death; Anderson also efficiently used sound effects in his music, including "instruments" such as sleigh bells, typewriters, and the slapstick. ~ Uncle Dave Lewis , Rovi

This must be the happiest man on earth if he composes "Fiddle Faddle," "The Typewritter, " and the "Syncopated Clock."

My all-time favorite light music composer. Makes me feel happy when I listen to his work...espec i a l l y when he conducted his own orchestra.

What a great guy! I'm so glad Pandora played his Concerto in C for piano & orchestra. I'd never have made such a huge discovery otherwise!

Brilliantly talented and innovative. I'm 71, and he brought me and many others a lifetime of delight.
Surely God is blessing him as Leroy has blessed us with all he has left us.
