Hero Of War

Well, what would you say if I said that you could
Just carry this gun, you'll even get paid
I said that sounds pretty good

So sad so true...
So true and sad. A person of peace being shot down for her belief.
I love this song it's so sad but it has a powerful meaning to it
Love this song!!
I usually don't like this kind of music. But the story this one tells, done so perfectly, I couldn't bring myself to pass it by. My favorite Rise Against song.
I find it strange that when I look up album reviews half the people hate this song
So sad, but great song and so true, I've never been there but the people I talk to about this seem depressed when they talk about his stuff.
Absolutely love Rise Against.
this band never ceases to amaze me with how close they are to the truth. and if you want to say otherwise then you need to stop hiding from the truth and open your eyes.
This song is so sad

Amazing and powerful, a terrible true story is expressed so elegantly in what is Likely my favorite band's best piece of music
I love this song.

Song sux. I like rise against, but they need to stick to what they are good at.
...this song, with the lyrics, seems to present a sort of irony. Talking about soldiers and the terrible things they did while at war, it also says that it's because of these atrocious actions that they are viewed as heroes in the eyes of the country. I love this song; hell, I love everything that is Rise Against, as new of a fan as I am. I can't wait to further discover their world.
What the f**k with similar songs? Only 2 of them are even acoustic to some degree. Everything else is not similar.
Im a US Marine and this song is pretty spot on with how crazy things can get, miss my brothers :(
waynearagon
I thought it was also a song about the hell soldiers go through in war and the occasionally atrocities they are asked to do sometimes. Not a direct attack on American ideals and military supremacy, but then I read the band info and their hardcore liberal and hate patriotism, this song was intended to paint the American institution of ideals as evil, all well. Still a good song.
i love this song, a redemption song, i cant get through it without crying, bitter bitter tears. love my fellow countrymen.
It's not against the country, it's telling the stories of men and women who took the call to defend their country, but we're forced to do things they deeply regret, and are having trouble coping with their anger for being used to do such horrible things, yet at the same time still love the country they risked their lives for.
This is an awesome song, reminds me of my brother.
this is a good song i herd it touched me and made my life soo much better
grimleemer2
this is sending a message to those men that tortured Iraqi prioners for no reason
this song really hit me, great writing.

And seriously, were all on the same side so why argue? Grow up please.
holy crap.... props to the wrighter
Great song.

Enough bickering guys, just shut up and enjoy some music.
Also war is not something that is supposed to be proud of, but think about this... 9/11 DID happen... is an attack on American soil not enough? War cannot be justified when its about expansion. But if it is waged to protect the lives of millions then a war must be waged. Don't be anti-war, be anti-terrori s t . Be supportive of the US Military. They support us.
Feather I'm no so sure that you are right...But you could be. I find this song to be well written.I don't think it is against the soldiers but against the evil in this world that has mixed up the lines of right and wrong. The soldiers go through hell over there because the enemy is hidden among the civilians. Therefore, the soldier in this feels guilty, yet he did his job."And I brought home that flag...the only flag i trust." I think that flag is his country's flag.
But hey this is my opinion

@Peter and Andy

I'm not sure what you mean. The song is about how a young man enlists and finds himself doing and thinking things he despises. By the end of the song, he has lost his faith in the flag of his country and only trusts the flag of surrender- white as snow. He is bitter because people celebrate him for breaking homes and killing people. I think you have missed the point. It says that war is not to be proud of. Ever. War is hell.

Again, just my opinion, you could be right.

i love this song! i hope to be like the soldier someday
The song tells a pretty sad story. I am not against war, but the song does tell that war is hell.
jcallofduty
great lyrics, i can really imagine the story that this band is trying to play in my head with this song.
this song is good as well as peace on earth by u2. They both deel with the same thing
This song touches on a few emotions that war does to our soldiers. Most soldiers can see a part of there trip in, i know i can its a good song. Served proudly USMC
Best song i have heard in a very long time....
...I used to think war was a form of stupidity, now it stands in front of me as another form of emotion, Rise Against could not have done a better job on this song, the horrors are loud and clear.
bionicle92
it takes a talnted artist to make me see myself in a song, but rise against does that in hero of war. great song, everyone should listen to it...

I'm barely in HS and have no idea what the world has in store for my generation. And this song isn't the most encouraging one. I love it, though. It's backed by a lot of emotions. (The description doesn't do this song nearly enough justice... ._.)
Rise Against is one of my favorite bands. This song floored me as it hit many of the emotions that I've felt in both of my deployments to Baghdad, Iraq. I just pray that its not used by the anti-war kids that could never understand the truth behind Iraq. With over 500 combat missions, I can proudly say that I serve my Country, my Flag, and my fellow Americans without shame of my time served. Live Free / Stand Proud

this song is so eye opening to the horrors of war. great song strong lyrics. Love it.
i LOVE this song.
It couldn't be a better song. When my older bro showed me this song, I cried. My other bro, Chad, is in the war. It such a great song and the truth in it is unrealistic. This simple song has done so much for me emotionally. I love Rise Against Hero of War for so many reasons. They rock and have TOTALLY inspired my life. But, I'm an artist, singing, dancing, piano, art, all nine yards, full blown. So, some things are more emotional to me. I feel the pain and regret in the song. Even though they d

Those lyrics are very deep. Makes you wonder what war does to the soldiers
